Description of Project:

The Philippines have a mixed health care delivery system, with public and private providers delivering roughly equal shares. The private sector plays a significant role in service delivery, primarily in an urban setting and with focus on curative care to higher and middle income households. The public system mostly serves the poorest sectors in the population providing a range of preventive, curative, and rehabilitative services. There was thus a need to rationalise hospital facilities through a better use of the private sector and its inclusion in health care planning, through improving financing and management of public sector hospitals, and through the setting and enforcement of standards and regulations.
