Health indicators in Cameroon resembled those of other African low income countries. Lack of investment in infrastructure and equipment, as well as maintenance, had led to deterioration of the public health facilities. To improve the physical assets of the health delivery system in three provinces (Coastal, North Western, and South Western) where German Technical Cooperation was present, KfW supported the rehabilitation of 3 District Hospitals with a capacity of 100 to 200 beds and the 9 surrounding health centres (Budget 7,66 million Euro). The support included the supply of medical equipment and setting up a maintenance system.
