The German government, through Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), financed the provision of essential drugs and medical supplies to the health sector in Nepal. The objective of the project was the improvement of primary health care in rural communities with respect to quality, quantity and accessibility of care, through improved management and the supply of essential drugs and basic medical equipment kits.
Technical assistance is being provided towards development of specifications for initial standardised medical equipment kits for more than 1000 Sub-Health Posts per year according to national standards from 1999 onwards also for Health Posts and Primary Health Centres. The support includes: - Development of specifications for initial stocks of essential drugs and supplies
- Provision of technical assistance in cost estimates, preparation of bidding documents, evaluation of offers, and proposals for contracts and tender documents
- Special certification for bulk bids/contracts, certification of the use of funds; monitoring the purchase, storage, distribution of supplies by way of random checks (with the Ministry of Health)
