A central DHIS2 information system, enabling coordinated and timely gathering of population health data generated from health care facilities and civil registration offices, has been successfully configured, installed, activated on central servers, and made available across 65 districts and cities of the Republic of Tajikistan. To date, more than 250 specialists from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Tajikistan have been trained and are currently using the DHIS2 system.
As part of the EUR 3.4M European Union funded project "Technical Assistance to Support the Strengthening of the Health Information System (HIS) in Tajikistan" implemented by EPOS Health Management (Germany) in consortium with ICON-Institute Public Sector (Germany), Oslo University (Norway) and IrfatC (Tajikistan), the DHIS2 system will play a key role in future public health analysis and decision making processes. The project will run through May 2016 and is focused on strengthening the HIS system for the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population, Ministry of Justice, Civil Registration Office and Agency of Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan through the roll-out a country-wide electronic reporting system.
Presently all necessary equipment supporting the DHIS2 system has been distributed nationwide to health care facilities and Civil Registration Offices. Informational roundtable meetings highlighting the system were conducted nationwide in April - May, 2014 for 263 representatives of khukhumats, civil registration offices, health care facilities, and agencies of statistics.
As part of the HIS system, new modules were developed for the Civil Registration Office, aiming to collect seven types of vital events (birth, death, marriage, divorce, filiation, adoption, and change of name). Fifty facilities have been connected to the central server with data entry starting online in Dushanbe.
