EPOS Health Management is pleased to announce that Ibrahim Shehata has joined our team as Managing Director. Mr Shehata will work to expand the organization’s portfolio in health financing, health systems strengthening, and hospital planning while deepening EPOS’s commitment to global health.
He brings to EPOS more than 25 years of experience in the health sector, having a strong professional and academic background and a proven record of excelling in diverse management positions.
Most recently, Mr Shehata was leading Deloitte Africa international donor organizations’ practice helping expand Deloitte’s footprint across the continent. Previously, he served in Deloitte Consulting U.S. practice for 16 years culminating in leading Deloitte’s global health practice, where he provided leadership to all global health projects, driving new business and client relationships.
Globally, Ibrahim Shehata worked in Africa, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East. He served as project director in Bulgaria on a health Sector Reform project leading efforts to create the National Health Insurance Fund, case-based financing (DRGs) for hospitals, and regional hospital reforms. In Egypt, he led the team that drafted the health insurance law and helped develop the payer functions of the Health Insurance Organization in its efforts to transition towards a universal health insurance. He also led hospital restructuring projects in Ukraine, Malawi, Eritrea and Jordan. Mr. Shehata also worked with the governments of Mozambique, Ukraine, Kenya, Malawi, Jordan, Egypt and Afghanistan with estimating their health expenditure using national health accounts. As Senior Health Financing advisor on a USAID flagship global health systems strengthening project, he provided technical advice to increase access to essential health services in a number of countries in Africa and the Middle East. He is considered one of the leading experts on the subject of health insurance and national health accounts.
In the United States, Mr. Shehata was part of the team that designed an ambulatory resource allocation system at hospitals at federal level. He provided technical support on the Early Periodic, Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment program to expand the role of the private sector in provider recruitment and outreach services in Louisiana. He also led the reorganization at a regional hospital system in Western Pennsylvania consolidating services and improving efficiency.
Mr. Shehata holds a Master degree in Health Services Management and an MBA. He has worked with many bilateral and multilateral donor organizations like USAID, DfID, the World Bank, the Global Fund, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
