Bangladesh: Strengthening Midwifery Education

Wednesday, September 13, 2017

The mentor and preceptorship programme in Rajshahi and Sylhet, developed in the context of the GIZ-funded and EPOS-implemented project “ABDC - Addressing Bangladesh’s Demographic Challenges”, is revolutionizing the midwifery education system in Bangladesh.

This programme is enhancing the clinical skills of midwife students with hands-on experience, making them competent and confident individuals capable of independent practice for maternal and child healthcare.  A group of nurse-midwives from the hospital and faculty from the nursing college act as Preceptors who teach and supervise the students during their work placement.

The positive impact is widely visible in the hospital and nursing college and is acknowledged by various stakeholders including physicians, nurses, hospital administration, nursing colleges and international partners.
