Project Objectives: The objective of the Tanzanian German Programme to Support Health (TGPSH) is aligned with the national goal of the health sector and is as follows: ‘All households are reached by evidence-based and efficient basic health services that fulfil objective quality criteria and, wherever possible, meet public expectations.’ This ambitious goal is set to tackle major healthcare issues regarding reproductive, maternal, neonatal, child and adolescent health.

The goal of the TGPSH TC module is to improve the quality and quantity of health services are, including access through health insurance.   The here tendered services encompass interventions under Output 2 and Output 3:

Output 2: Performance improvement of selected health facilities in neonatal care, including improvement of equipment availability. Supported hospitals will be enabled to establish functional new-born care units and assure adequate treatment to new-borns in critical condition.

Output 3: Improvement of services for reproductive health, including emergency obstetric and neonatal care and post-partum family planning services in the supported partner health facilities. The focus on improved access to family planning and emergency obstetric (and neonatal) care contributes to ensuring the right to reproductive health and sexual self-determination for especially vulnerable groups.

Job Description and Expert Profile:

Expert 2 and 3:

Expert 2, national, long-term (based in Mbeya), 18 expert months,

Expert 3, national, long-term (based in Tanga)

Under guidance of the Team Leader and in close consultation and collaboration with the regional, district and facility counterparts in Mbeya (expert 2) and Tanga (expert 3), plan and implement all project measures pertaining to Work Package 2 (EmONC)

  • University qualification in medicine, licensed physician in Tanzania and completed specialization in obstetrics/gynaecology (board registration)
  • C1 language skills in English and Kiswahili
  • 7 years of professional clinical experience in obstetrics/gynaecology
  • 3 years of experience in quality improvement processes in maternal health, 3 years of experience in conducting clinical training and mentoring in maternal health including obstetric emergency care
  • Proven IT literacy (MS Office, Windows, ability to use digital health information systems)
